A Ukrainian Winter Solstice Offering from Kitka

Its an absolute pleasure filming Kitka this year! It presents a challenge holding focus and frame while your spirit is ascending to the heavens. This was a challenging shoot operating 4 camera simultaneously. Two cams were automated, one operated the old fashioned way and the 4th operated remotely and wireless. Quite a juggling act.

EKF Productions filmed Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble’s Ukrainian Winter Solstice performance at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oakland, California. The historic church near Lake Merritt is known for its excellent acoustics and regularly hosts choral, chamber, and cultural performances.
Capturing a vocal ensemble in a large church presents unique challenges for a cinematographer, requiring careful attention to composition, focus, exposure, and timing while preserving the atmosphere of the performance and the character of the historic space. This project demonstrates EKF Productions’ experience filming live music, choral performances, cultural events, and concerts in Oakland and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
